I'm reformatting my thoughts from a message that I sent to somebody else recently, but I'm currently quite worked up and I just needed to pass along my thoughts.
This huge explosion happening from the most recent frontpage post standing in defense of Pokemon Clover having a set feels really bizarre to me. It has content that ranges from somewhat offensive to extremely overt bigotry. Allowing the set to get made is one thing; RA has its fair share of content that is questionable, and has drawn at least some lines for what things are too far for the site. I don't agree that the game should get a set, but if RA took a truly neutral stance on the matter, I guess I could just ignore it.
Making a frontpage post about it is so much more, however. This is a vocal statement of support behind the content, and really exacerbates the problem. I make it no secret my political leanings, and though I think they are hardly relevant in most cases, I think you can understand why this makes it hard for me to be able to support RA. Again, this wouldn't have been as much of an issue if RA just kept its head down, but making this a public spectacle is really making this so much of a mess, and I think it reflects very poorly on the site's reputation. The conversations that are happening in my circles are really troubling, and I'm sure there are other conversations happening as well.
This feels like a clear example of the "nazi bar" problem to me, and that's not what I want to see happen to a site I care about. This one instance might not seem all that important, but it feels like the start of a larger problem beginning, and at this point, people are already deciding "yeah, I'm done with RA". When it gets worse, it will only grow from there. I'm trying to get out ahead of this before RA becomes a site that I can't in good conscience associate with, because it's a project that I've grown to care about deeply.
You don't have to care what I think, and my opinions aren't all that important
